How We Calculate This

This calculator converts between gelatine sheets and powder using bloom-equivalence. It works in “bloom-grams” (sheet weight × bloom strength), because setting power is proportional to that product. Powder is treated as ~200 bloom, the same as a gold leaf, so 1 gold sheet (2g) ≈ 2g powder.

Sheet Weights and Bloom by Grade

  • Platinum (250 bloom): ~1.7g per sheet — strongest grade
  • Gold (200 bloom): ~2g per sheet — the UK default
  • Silver (160 bloom): ~2.5g per sheet
  • Bronze (125 bloom): ~3.3g per sheet
  • Titanium (100 bloom): ~5g per sheet — weakest grade, largest leaf

Because the weaker grades are made as larger sheets, leaf gelatine swaps roughly one-for-one by sheet count. The conversion only diverges from 1:1 when you cross between leaf and powder, or measure leaves by weight rather than by count.
