Cookie Dough Ball Weight Calculator

Weighing dough balls ensures every cookie is the same size, which means they all bake at the same rate. Cookies that are different sizes will bake unevenly — small ones will be overdone while large ones are still raw in the middle. A kitchen scale makes this quick and easy.

It depends on the cookie type. For standard drop cookies, 25-35g is typical (about a heaped tablespoon). For large American-style cookies, 50-60g. For small tea biscuits, 15-20g. The weight affects both size and baking time.

A scale is more accurate, but a cookie scoop is faster for large batches and gives good consistency. A standard cookie scoop holds about 30g of dough. If using a scoop, weigh a few at the start to confirm they are consistent.

The calculator rounds to the nearest gram. In practice, any small remainder can be added to the last few cookies or baked as a bonus oddly-sized cookie. A difference of 1-2g per ball will not be noticeable.
