This calculator uses standard UK portion sizes for dry rice, then applies type-specific cooking multipliers to estimate cooked weight and water requirements.

Standard Portions (Dry Weight)

  • Main accompaniment: 75g per person
  • Small side: 50g per person
  • Risotto main: 100g per person

Cooking Multipliers

  • White long grain: x3, water ratio 1.8:1
  • Basmati: x2.8, water ratio 1.5:1
  • Brown rice: x2.5, water ratio 2.2:1
  • Risotto: x3.5, water (stock) ratio 3:1
